A case of LOWE Syndrome (Oculo cerebro renal syndrome): Clinical implications and anesthetic management
Abstract
Cataract surgery in neonates and infants can be quite challenging, as many of these children may be having congenital anomalies like Downs, infections like rubella etc. LOWE syndrome is one of the few conditions where the child is born with cataract.
LOWE syndrome is a rare X- linked disorder characterised by congenital cataract, mental retardation and Fanconies syndrome. The disease is caused by the mutations of OCRL gene which encodes phospatydyl inositol (4, 5) biphosphatase (Ptdlns (4, 5) P2 phosphatase), protein. We report here the perioperative management of a child with LOWE syndrome who was operated for congenital cataract.
