Abstract

Diastolic dysfunction (DD) is best considered not as a distinct entity but as part of a continuum that also includes heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). This entity is the cause of heart failure in 50% of all patients presentin with decompensated heart failure.1 It is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Diastolic dysfunction refers to abnormalities of active myocardial relaxation and passive ventricular filling.2
